Frequently Asked Questions

Who needs home care?

Almost every family has to face this question at some point. The right time for home care can be when a senior needs help recovering from a short term health problem or when they are suffering from a long term chronic health problem. There are 6 Activities of Daily Living (ADL) that individuals must be able complete on a daily basis without assistance in order to maintain their independence. These activities are: bathing, eating, dressing, toileting, ambulation (mobility, walking) and continence. A person’s ability to perform these tasks determines what home care services they require to help them stay as independent as possible.

What can I expect from a home care assessment visit?

You can expect a compassionate and professional representative to come and meet with you. Our in-home interviews are no-charge and no-obligation. During the meeting we will decide together how best to meet your individual needs. This involves deciding what services will be required, from personal grooming to cleaning and making meals etc. We will also help you determine whether or not you are in need of a Personal Support Worker or a Companion. With this information, we can design a highly personalized, flexible and effective care plan. We can assure you that when the meeting is over, you will feel good about the help our services can provide to you and your loved one.

What is the difference between a PSW and a Companion?

A PSW is a Personal Support Worker who has gone to school to receive their professional certificate. They are highly trained individuals who have been taught how to groom, deal with incontinence, transfer and position clients and provide a number of other services properly and in a professional manner. A Companion is someone who is comfortable performing everyday tasks that you can no longer do for yourself, such as laundry, cleaning, meals and running errands.

Is care only available in my home?

No, we are willing to go wherever our care is needed. We care for seniors in hospitals as well as nursing homes, rehab centers or anywhere else they are residing.

Do I get to choose my caregiver?

We choose the best caregiver for you based on your needs. However, if for any reason you are not satisfied with your caregiver or there is a personality clash, we will do whatever is necessary to make sure you are comfortable in your home or place of residence and completely satisfied with our services.

What happens if my caregiver is sick or is unable to show up?

In the event that your caregiver is sick, we have a replacement come and look after you. We have a number of care providers ready to cover for these situations and they all strive to meet and exceed your expectations.

Can I change the care schedule?

Our services are very flexible and can be changed as long as we are given notice a week or two in advance. Our aim is to serve as effectively as possible and your needs and schedule come first.

How much do your services cost?

The cost of our services is very reasonable and depends on which services are being provided and how often they are required. The rate for your particular situation will be discussed when we come to visit and conduct the free personal assessment interview. Home care is the most flexible and highest value form of elderly care available. The average client’s service costs a fraction of what a nursing home or assisted living facility charges.

Does it cost more to care for two seniors at the same time?

The cost to care for 2 seniors at the same time depends on the needs of each individual and the services that are being provided. This will be discussed during the initial home visit.

Are there any additional charges?

There are no hidden costs to our service. All costs that you’ll be charged for are discussed beforehand and depend on your particular situation. A few examples of “additional” costs include a parking charge at a hospital, mileage for an appointment we take you to or errands we run for you.
